NFL Regular Season Wrap-Up

Not much left to decide in the final week.  Two yo-yo teams, the Giants and Cowboys, will play to decide the NFC East.  The Cowboys are the better team, but have found some bizarre ways to lose this year.  Tony Homo already has an excuse for losing (a sore hand injured when cutting a glory hole in a rest stop shitter on I-35 near Fort Worth) which actually gives the Cowboys an edge.  With his excuse on the ready, Homo can relax and not worry about being the goat, thus the Cowboys are the pick to win over the Giants.

Coach of the Year: Jim Harbaugh.  Turned around the 49ers in his first year, which gives him the edge over Krazy Jim Schwartz, who took three years to fix the Lions.  Runners-up: Krazy Jim Schwartz, John Fox, who continues to win games with sub-par quarterbacks, Marvin Lewis, the only really good negro coach in the NFL (Mike Tomlin inherited his success from Cowher.  Let's see him face some adversity, like Jim Caldwell did this year, and then we'll be able to make a proper judgment).

Flop Coach of the Year: Steve Spagnuolo.  The Rams were getting almost as much hype as the Lions in the pre-season, yet while the Lions have lived up to the hype with a nice 10 - 5 record, the Rams have crapped all over themselves, sitting in their own stink at 2 - 13, and not even coming close in most of the 13 losses.  The Rams need to cut loose of the wop Spagnuolo.  Runners-up: Morbidly obese Andy Reid, whose All-Star Eagles team couldn't even win the crappy NFC East. Negro Leslie Frazier who inherited a QB mess, but still, the man was a supposed defensive genius, and the talent-rich Vikings' D has given up almost 30 points per game. Negro Raheem Morris, who had a terrible first year in Tampa, then somehow won 10 games last year, but now stares at the possibility of ending his third year with a ten game losing streak.  If he gets fired, don't be surprised if he whines about race.

MVP: Aaron Rodgers.  Sure, Brees has had a fantastic year, too.  But the Packers wouldn't even make the playoffs without A-Rodg.  The Packers defense is crap, their O-Line is mediocre, they have only one good receiver, and a couple average running backs.  The Saints have enough weapons on offense, and a strong enough defense to win 9 or 10 games without Brees.  Runners-up: Tom BradyMathilda Stafford.  Stafford???  Ahead of Brees?? Yes, sir.  Look at this way: Jim Schwartz looked a lot like wop Steve Spagnuolo in games Stafford missed, but when Mathilda stays on her feet, Krazy Jim is the Les Miles of the NFL.

Rookie of the Year: Cam Newton.  No contest.  If Carolina's beaner coach Ron Rivera can fix that defense even a little next year, look out.  Carolina will surge past Atlanta, and maybe even the Saints.  All Newton has to do is cut his interceptions in half, and the Panthers will have an unstoppable offense.  Runners-up: Andy Dalton, AJ Green, Julio Jones, Von Miller, DeMarco Murray.

  1. Wowza, the Cowboys look horrible on defense. Brooking is in maybe half the time, substitutions all over the joint. . . . it's obvious Ryan put in an over-complex defense.

Tebow looked terrible and the Broncos limp into the playoffs. The Steelers should paste them. If Tebow keeps this up, 18 pts will be on defensive TD's.

The Falcons looked good in their tune-up and don't have to face the Saints. As long as the Falcons don't have to face the Saints, they have a chance. Otherwise, the Falcons done.

What did that second string QB do to Detroit? Is GB simply a great system? Unlike Indy, GB doesn't need Rogers to be great.

The Saints looked great. They even have a run-game.

I predict the Saints win the SB.

  2. The Lions defense was AWFUL. . .I mean, it had to be absolute horseshit to lose a game in which Mathilda Stafford tosses for 520. . .Stafford had a great year. . .played all 16, 5000 yards, 40 tds. . .the only good thing about this game for the Lions defense is that they can't play any worse next week in NO. .. and maybe, if they have any character, they will be shamed into playing a decent game. . otherwise Stafford will have to put 49 on the board for the Lions to win. Atlanta got a nice gift from the Lions Defense. . .beating the Giants will be a lot easier than beating NO.

I can't stand the Steelers. . but I don't see any way possible Tebow can win that game. . .he backed into the playoffs.

The Saints are a tempting pick, simply because GB's defense is so lousy. . but I still like Rodgers to win it again. . .though I am starting to think Baltimore, with Rice and their D, might have the recipe to take the Packers down.

  3. The Ravens are clicking at the right time, for sure. The OL is plowing through defensive lines and Rice is bowling over the LB's and beating up the secondary.

Which makes life easy for the serviceable Flacco. Rice getting into secondaries HAS to slow those guys down and make them play closer to the box.

The Packers defensive line is horrendous. The big reason Matthews is so productive is so damn many running backs are getting through that line. Woodson has how many tackles at CB?

Way too many guys getting through which causes loose coverage is the way Baltimore can win.

The big thing is whether Baltimore can stop Rogers. With hardly any pass-rush and a weak rushing-defense? It could be a shootout from Rogers and Rice rumbling through the Pack.

Tebow is playing for his starting position. He knows it. If he chokes again, there will be no billboards calling for Tebow as QB. . . . there may be billboards calling for Tebow to convert into a TE or FB.

    But as QB? No.

Brees will likely paste the Lions. With a running game? How can the Lions win? Even with Mathilda throwing lasers, it will be hard to top. And there's an eggshell quality to Mathilda. If she gets tagged, not even hard, just right, forget about it.

Cincy and Houston are a fun matchup. I kinda hope Yates and DelHomey get hurt so Garcia can have one last go of it. At the very least we could look forward to some lispy interviews.

Oh yeah, we already get that with Tebow.

Shoot, Tebow at FB or TE isn't even a good change because he fumbles so often. I like the guy and think he is sincere. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like he's an NFL QB or even an NFL player at all.

  4. PS: Per Tebow, I really hope the guy proves me wrong. But rooting for him is reminding me of rooting for Dale Murphy in the last few years. You just wanted to see the guy succeed but it became clearer and clearer he wasn't cut out for the job anymore.
