Underwhelmed

I watched the first half of the Michigan game yesterday. . .and was underwhelmed.  Anybody hoping Mattison could come in and work a miracle with the defense--sorry.  A mediocre MAC team came in and moved up and down the field, no problem.  Only a missed field goal and a fluke INT kept Michigan ahead.

The special teams were also shit, once again.  Big kickoff returns allowed.  A missed extra point.

Except for the bland offense, Michigan looked remarkably similar to the old RichRod edition.  The only hope for this year is that the team actually improves as the season goes along.  Under RichRod, Michigan made ZERO improvements during the year, and the defense actually got worse week-by-week, until at season's end nobody even had to bring a punter against Michigan.

Notre Dame laid the biggest egg yesterday, 5 turnovers, giving away a game in which they out-gained South Florida 508 - 254.  Kelly had to be disgusted over the sloppy play.

Uh, disgusted??  Disgusted might not quite be the word to describe Kelly's, uh, discontent:
Anyways, Michigan will need another 3 or 4 turnovers from Notre Dame next week to have any chance to win. . .which I doubt will happen.  Michael Floyd is back, and Michigan has no one to cover him.

  1. Whew, the ND game was uggggly.

The weather tried to ease their pain and gave a delay.

ND couldn't even take the extra time to coach it up.

They'll still have their sweet tv contract.

  2. After seeing how Alabama struggled to run against a MAC team, next week's Alabama - Penn State game might be worth a look. Penn State is getting from 12 to 14 points in this one. . .I'd definitely take PSU +14.

  3. Bama had 5 rushing TD's with 183 yards of rushing with an average of 5.2 yards a carry. And they put in the third string by the 4th quarter.

They had no trouble with Kent State.

They do have a problem with passing. The QB position at Bama is not good if they ever need to come back in a game. Four or five interceptions, I forget.

But their rushing is fine. As far as PSU, Saban will take it easy on Paterno and not run the score up too much.

But he'll handily hand PSU a loss. I'd take you on that bet.

  4. I look at Richardson with 13 carries and 37 yds against a MAC school and see some problems. Give me PSU and the 14, and we have a bet.

  5. Eh, I'll take 12 on the spread.

Richardson had 13 carries and 3 TD's close to the endzone.

I take 12 because Saban will want to take it easy on JoePa.
